Hako is an around four centuries old Finnish word that means havu, a sprig or branch of an evergreen tree. “Hakoteillä” is an old Finnish proverb, which, in essence, means that not all who wander are lost. Sometimes it is more important to wander around for a while and only then step on the right path rather than to walk the line and see and experience nothing.
Havu, a sprig of an evergreen tree, is an old symbol in Finnish Military lingo: it was the first IFF symbol of the independent Finnish Army and is still the symbol of Finnish Recon troops. This is what we want our Hako to stand for: the ability to vanish into the landscape and esprit de corps among those outside the wire.
Care label on combat pants is accidentally that of our combat shirt. The correct fiber composition is as follows: 1) main material 50% polyamide / 50% cotton and 2) elastic parts 88% polyamide / 12% elastane.
It is a well know fact that being wet sucks. Hakos will dry pretty fast, but sometimes there is no time to wait. For these times spares sound ideal, and for that reason these go at reduced price, if you take two (2) of the same size:

During the planning process, we thought long and hard about which style of knee pads we would choose to accomodate. It was clear from the beginning that there would be inserts, but what kind? The process boiled down to three basic choices: traditional "mouse pads", hard inserts or "Arc'teryx" models, i.e. more traditional with straps, but clearly low-profile. We climbed to the top of a high mountain in Tibet. We prayed to all spirit beings and Lauri Törn.
No answer.
Then we got it: the only choice is to choose them all.
The knee pad pockets of Hako combat pants combine all three main insert model knee protector options without hindering the use of each other. Next, let's go through how different models of knee pads work with pants.
Open the bottom opening, slide the knee pad in, close the opening.
There are basically two ways to usehard inserts, one of which is easier. Namely, under the sacrificial part of the knee pad pocket, there is a ready-made opening with velour to which the insert can be attached. The purpose is that the sacrificial piece can be removed, making it easier to insert, although the hard part of the insert can also be placed between the opening of the pocket and the sacrificial piece. By keeping the sacrificial piece in place, the knee pad is better protected and can't get lost. Removing the sacrificial piece revokes the right to return, but it does not affect the warranty!
Polvisuojataskussa on molemmilla sivuilla kaksi aukkoa, joiden kautta polvisuojien hihnat saa kulkemaan housujen päältä. Aukkojen leveys on 40 mm ja niiden väli on 80 mm, eli virallisesti nämä on mitoitettu Arc'teryx-mallisille suojille mutta muut vastaavan kokoiset polvisuojat käyvät oikein hyvin. Aukkojen reunat on vahvistettu trenssauksin, jotta ne eivät lähtisi purkautumaan polvisuojien hihnojen hangatessa niitä vasten. Tätä mallia käyttäessä uhripala kannattaa pitää paikallaan!
The knee pad pocket has two openings on both sides, through which the straps of the knee pads can be routed. The width of the openings is 40 mm and the distance between them is 80 mm, so officially these are sized for Arc'teryx-style pads, but other similar-sized knee pads will work just fine. The edges of the openings are reinforced with bar tacks so that they don't come off when the straps of the knee pads rub against them. When using this style of pads, you should keep the sacrificial piece in place!
When designing the Hako combat clothing system, i.e. these pants and combat shirt at the time, we set ourselves a criterion that the system must have at least one pocket where nothing can fall out. Next, a decision of priciple was made: we do not want to decide on behalf of the customer what size things he does not want to lose of under any circumstances. So we decided to put zippers in the biggest pockets!
A sturdy locking model from Opti was chosen as the zipper. The lock means that the handle must first be pulled slightly outwards in order for the zipper to move. To prevent the pocket from accidentally opening, there is no loop in the handle through which even a twig might pass. The pocket opens from the front of the thigh towards the back, so that the pocket can be accessed while sitting in a vehicle, for example. In the rear position, the slide of the zipper slides completely away from the top of the pocket, so that the mouth opening is as large as possible. In addition, there is a pleat in the front, which helps the mouth opening of the pocket to open wider.
Here is a video presentation of the pockets:
The cut of Hako combat pants is designed to give the user every possible advantage, watch the video below and get the hang of it:
Hako combat pants are made almost entirely of IRR protected materials specifically according to the requirements of the Defense Forces. In the tests, even the elastic fabric does not endanger the garment and the user in the IRR area. Fire resistance properties are not an obstacle either, especially with appropriate underwear. So, for us, this means that the garment is safe and downright reasonable to use, in combat, in service or other national defense activities - that's what Hako Combat Pants were created for.
As an example, IRR characteristics of the M05 fabric have been designed to have the IR range reflectivity as close as possible to comparable colors/materials found in nature. In practice, this means that when viewed through a night vision device, the view is closer to a typical boreal forest without an unnaturally non-reflective blob sticking out like a sore thumb.
Ripstop refers to a special treatment stage during which fabric-reinforcing threads (e.g. nylon) are sewn horizontally and vertically into the fabric forming a net of small squares, around 1 cm in size. This treatment stops the fabric from ripping, which means that it extends the life span of the garment. The ripstop treatment can be made to almost any fabric.
The garment’s IRR characteristics are baked into the fabric itself, so the only way to prevent them from doing their job is by washing the garment with laundry detergents containing optical brighteners (or tarnishing its surface with reflective substances.) In practice, this means that the garment cannot be washed with typical detergents from your local supermarket or in a washing machine that has been used for years with detergents containing optical brighteners.
We grant all Hako products a warranty of 12 months. The warranty covers all manufacturing and material defects, so it does not cover repeatedly butt sliding on a cheese grater or other self-inflicted damage. On the other hand, if the stitching comes undone by itself or a zipper pull and slide have a break-up during normal operation, we will repair the garment or replace it with a new one.
Unpicking the additional seam in belt loops or the sacrificial piece in knee pad pockets doesn't affect the warranty, but if those measures are taken the pants can not be returned.

XS | 84 cm | 83 cm | 107 cm |
S | 90 cm | 83 cm | 108 cm |

XL | 108 cm | 83 cm | 110 cm |
XXL | 114 cm | 83 cm | 110 cm |
These are the absolute measurements of the garments. A handy way to measure what fits you is to take measurements from one of your garments that fit you well and choose the size with the measurements closest to it. Also, make sure to choose a size that has bigger measurements than yourself! Unless, of course, you prefer really tight pants.
Long sizes add an additional 4 cm to the inseam and outseam. Arc'teryx (or similar) kneepads tend to lift the pants a little bit so if you plan to use those and feel like you are between longs and regulars, take the longs.
